Zalando, a name that sounds familiar, right? This is the name of an online store of clothing, shoes and accessories, created in 2008 in Germany and which, in just a few years, has conquered Europe and its customers. It is in particular thanks to an unstoppable marketing strategy – adapted to each country and offering very advantageous customer service with free exchanges and returns – that this e-commerce store on the internet has seen its growth explode in a short time. A representative example of what a start-up is and which the infographic proposed below, produced by the website Ecoreuil.fr, details for us.
This infographic traces, among other things, a brief history of the Zalando company while giving us the essential figures. Founded by David Schneider and Robert Gentz, Zalando was originally a shoe e-commerce business selling its products in its birth country of Germany. Then its activities diversified and expanded to clothing and fashion accessories. Today, Zalando offers a wide variety of items, from shoes that it has never stopped selling to accessories (jewelry, bags, watches, etc.), including sporting goods. And there’s something for everyone, from women to men to children’s ranges.
The infographic is also very precise on the different items sold by the company and their sales percentage. For example, we learn that clothing represents 55% of the online store’s sales, compared to 11% of sales for accessories. Women’s fashion is particularly the great strength of this e-commerce, since almost half (49%) of clothing sales concern women’s textile products; men’s fashion represents 36% of sales and children’s fashion represents 15%.
