a great alternative to SEMrush

Last modified August 6, 2021

If you are an SEO and you are looking for a versatile tool to manage your SEO projects without breaking the bank, Serpstat may surely interest you. This solution, very similar to Semrush, has existed for some time in Eastern countries and is gradually launching on the French market. The opportunity to take stock of the functionalities, advantages and disadvantages of this tool.

Serpstat overview

Serpstat is a Ukrainian SEO solution originally developed for internal agency use. Over time, this tool has improved to become very comprehensive to the point of allowing it significant growth and becoming a product used even outside the agency.

From the first steps on the tool, we very clearly feel the similarities with SEMrush. Personally, being very familiar with it, I quickly got used to it, especially since the interface is rather ergonomic.

Serpstat consists of 5 main sections:

  • Website analysis
  • Keyword research
  • Backlink analysis
  • Positioning tracking
  • Site audit

Each section has other features, a list of which you can find on this page.

Website analysis

This section allows you to analyze a particular area from several angles.

Website Analysis Serpstat

  • SEO Research: From there, you can track positions, do a domain vs domain comparison, identify top competitors for your site, explore the top organic pages on any site.
  • Paid search: If you plan to make PPC ads on Adwords to generate traffic, this function can be interesting. When you enter a keyword in the search box, you will be able to see data related to keywords, competitors for that keyword, advertising examples and advertising research.
  • Batch analysis: This allows you to quickly compare metrics from multiple domains (up to 200 at once)
  • Infographics: Allows you to see different data such as traffic trends or the position of your keywords in graphical form.
  • URL parsing: When you type the URL in the search box, you will get a list of keywords and how they rank on Google for that specific URL.
  • Competitors: Shows competitors at the URL entered in the search bar, along with their total Facebook shares.
  • URL vs. URL: This tool allows you to make a comparison of a specific URL of your site with 1 or 2 competing URLs, and discover common or unique keywords of the specified URLs.
  • Missing keywords: Shows keywords for which competitor pages rank in the top 10, but are not present in your specified URL.

Keyword research

Thanks to a very comprehensive database on many languages, including French, Serpstat allows you to find new keyword opportunities and analyze those of your competitors.

Keyword Research Serpstat

Keyword research includes the following features:

  • SEO Research: Allows you to see the volume of keywords, associated keywords, query suggestions, pages on the SERPs and the competitors most present on these keywords. Among the possibilities, we will notably retain the Related Keyword function for associated keywords and thus find even more expressions and synonyms for the searched keyword. This makes it possible, for example, to optimize featured snippet or People Also Ask type queries.
  • Paid search: Find more ideas for related paid keywords, competitors, sample ads, and ad research reports.
  • Content Marketing: Lists phrase suggestions in interrogative form for a given keyword.
  • SERP Analysis: Shows the top 100 results on Google in organic and paid search for a keyword.

Backlink analysis

Serpstat also offers the ability to analyze your link profile as well as compare it with your competitors. This feature allows you to analyze your competitors’ netlinking strategies and find new spots that would be interesting for your site.

Backlink Analysis Serpstat

Backlink analysis allows you to see the number of referring domains, the total number of links, linked pages, etc. Comparing with SEMrush on the same sites, I noticed that Serpstat manages to be closer to reality by finding more links.

Positioning tracking

Serpstat obviously includes a positioning tracking tool. An essential option when you know that search engine rankings change almost every day.

Rank Tracker Serpstat

Here are the different features present in this section:

  • Positions: Allows you to see the distribution of your site’s ranking on search engines (top 10, top 20, etc.).
  • History: Shows historical data on domain positions for selected keywords.
  • Competitors: Shows the share of traffic for selected keywords among the competition.
  • Landing page: Shows landing pages for all tracked keywords.

Like the Ranks.fr Serpometer, Serpstat also has its own tool called “Storm” to analyze the rate of change in Google results.

Serpstat position monitoring

Finally, it is also possible to track changes to competitive snippets over 5 days.

Site audit

The site audit gives you a comprehensive analysis of your site’s overall SEO score, highlighting any errors that need to be fixed for your site to be perfectly optimized.

Here are all the elements that are studied:

  • Meta Tags
  • Header tags
  • Content
  • Multimedia
  • Accessibility and indexing
  • Redirects
  • Links
  • Server Settings
  • HTTPS certificate
  • Hreflang attributes
  • Pages in AMP format
  • Markup

Serpstat formulas and prices

Serpstat is available in four basic packages with very affordable entry prices compared to the prices charged at SEMrush or Ahrefs.

  • Plan A: With a price of $19/month, this plan is ideal for small businesses that have just started their activities and have simple needs.
  • Plan B: With a plan that costs $69/month, the user has access to even more data and is ideal for independent consultants.
  • Plan C: The third plan costs $149/month and is suitable for medium businesses and small agencies
  • Plan D: The most expensive Serpstat plan costs $299/month and is primarily aimed at large businesses and agencies.

Serpstat prices

Also note that the basic functionalities of Serpstat can be used for free although limited in order to give you an overview of the possibilities.

In summary

Serpstat is a very comprehensive SEO tool that offers both a wide range of features and a pleasant user interface. The solution’s prices are more affordable than those of similar tools like SEMrush or Ahrefs and positions it as an excellent alternative, especially for independent consultants or startups. For the moment, the only criticism I can make of the tool is that it has not yet been translated into French. However, Serpstat is very attentive to its community and regularly updates by offering new features, more precise reports or by increasing its keyword database. A tool to watch very closely and which I recommend you try!
