I looked up the term resilience in the Treccani dictionary to give a precise definition.

For a material it is the resistance to breaking following a specific impact test. In psychology, it is the ability of human beings to react in the face of trauma and difficulty.

Mental resilience means having the ability to bounce back from adversity and this is a concept of great interest in the business world.

Knowing how to deal with tragedies, threats, but also changes and sources of stress is essential to being able to manage situations and responsibilities. Mental resilience doesn’t just mean putting up a protective shield, it allows for a profound personal growth.

There are many aspects of your life and business that you can control, manage and change. Develop mental resilience to not only overcome difficult circumstances, but also to grow and even improve your journey.

Attention, be resilient It doesn’t mean you will never feel states of anguish or pressure. But it is the ability to welcome those states, without being overwhelmed by them, and then being able to recover the energy to progress.

It’s a skill that it can be developed with good will and experienceso even if you feel like you don’t have it now doesn’t mean you won’t get there. If you follow my advice and put in the effort, you can also use mental resilience to boost your performance within your business.

The mental resilience to manage your business

Developing mental resilience is important because it allows you to be ready when you find yourself in need face problems. Resilience is a sort of abstract muscle and if you train it day after day it will support you in times of need.

Today more than ever, entrepreneurs must know how to be resilient because they find themselves facing the great changes brought by technology. In fact, too to embrace innovation there is a need for mental resilience.

The introduction of innovative processes requires a change in culture and mentality. I talked about it in depth in my article on psychology of changein which I retraced the emotional and psychological stages that each of us finds ourselves going through during an important transformation.

Wondering what this has to do with business?

I’ll answer you right away. Your business is not separate from you. Your company is like a living organism and develops well if it is healthy. The well-being of your business depends on your decisions and increasing profits.

To increase profits you need to get more customers by reducing your acquisition costs. This means you have to make your sales more and more effective.

Are you wondering how to do it and above all what mental resilience has to do with it?

Simple, you have to know how to build relationships with consumers. And how is it done? You need to get into the minds of your customers. If you are interested in learning more about this topic, I will make my video course available to you.”Understanding customer psychology”, in which I focus precisely on the methods to resonate with the customer to create a relationship.

What is it about?

It’s a course for entrepreneurs and marketers who really want to understand their customers for obtain business advantages.

But now let’s go back and see together how to exploit mental resilience to gain advantages in the sales phase.

Build connections

Building lasting relationships with your customers is essential to closing sales successfully.

Get mental resilience to help you do this.

If you are an empathetic and understanding person, it will be easier for your potential customers to connect with you and trust you. Focus on the needs of your interlocutor without letting your ego emerge.

Always put the customer at the centre, who must be and feel like the protagonist, even if you lead the sale.

Mental resilience helps you manage relationships with other people you also happen to have some personal problems. If you are resilient you will be able to manage it and keep it away from your work, without it damaging you on multiple fronts. That is to say both on the private and professional side.

Keep in mind that your potential customers will never wonder why you gave a bad answer or your strange behavior. Customers are not your friends, they just expect you to be there to meet their needs.

Resilience helps you reduce blood pressure that provoke your emotions. By remaining rational and calm, even in difficult times, you will continue to think clearly without being overwhelmed by negative feelings.

If you are in control of yourself, you will also be in control of your sales negotiations.

Promote well-being

Promoting well-being during sales negotiations means putting the customer at ease and making him feel taken into consideration.

Practice agreeing with him, even if this does not mean being condescending.

The customer must feel that you are on his side.

Now you will think “Okay Mirko, but what if I have to tell him something opposite to what he said? I cannot?”.

Of course you can, or rather you must. The relationship with the customer must be built on mutual trust.

But there are various ways to say things. You need to use it with your client persuasive communication to approach him so that he listens to you.

Avoid any cause for conflict.

As I explain better in my video course “Understanding customer psychology”, you must first agree with what he says. Once you have found the meeting point, you can also introduce your thoughts.

You have to make sure that you and the customer are in agreement to move towards closing the sale together.

This rule applies to all types of relationships: practice agreeing with family, friends or colleagues. Overall it’s a great way to communicate with other people.

And to accommodate their objections.

Accept objections

There objection handling it is one of the fundamental keys to successfully closing a sale.

It is not always easy to manage all of a customer’s doubts because they are a source of stress. Customer objections require continuous effort on your part to shut them down and this could lead to losing patience.

But this must not happen with your customers, otherwise they will leave.

Have a positive attitude It’s a useful way to address all your customers’ concerns.

What does it mean?

It means possessing the mental resilience that allows you to benevolently welcome objections, doubts, perplexities, judgments and everything that can come out of the mouth of your potential client.

“A person who can make someone feel good can sell practically anything” this is a phrase I say in my video course “Understanding customer psychology. I wanted to bring it back here too because I believe it perfectly expresses the concepts of positive attitude and promote well-being.

People want to feel good and are constantly looking for relationships that satisfy this desire. Even if it is a commercial relationship and the purchase of a product or service is at stake.

How to develop mental resilience

Mental resilience is the ability to self-repair after damage. It helps you resist and regenerate, but also to build and organize your life or business positively.

If, as they say, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Then you need to gain experience and be ready to face challenges, disappointments and changes.

Do you think you are incapable of being resilient?

I believe, however, that all you need is a little training.

Here are 3 ways to develop mental resilience or strengthen it.

1. Have a goal

Your goals help you find the motivation. Having a purpose and a goal to achieve allows you to clarify your why.

If you know the reason that drives you to act, the actions you take will be a consequence.

Let me explain better. If you are at point A and want to get to point B all you have to do is calculate the route, divide it into smaller phases and then start your journey.

And to get to point B without getting stuck along the way you need to have your “why” clearly in mind.

To be focused on your goal it means finding the strength to carry on despite everything.

2. Be persevering

Perseverance helps you develop mental resilience. The concept is to hold on and applies both in life and in business.

Perseverance is needed to keep motivation alive, however continue on your path until the goal is reached.

Accept that you cannot manage every change and not be destabilized by events that happen around you. Trying to fight what is not in your power will only lead to great frustration.

Use that energy to gather all your strength and continue along your path.

3. Take one step at a time

Self-sabotage is the root cause of failure.

If you look at the road you have to travel all at once it will scare you and you might think that you will never reach the finish line.

But every path is made of stepsput one after another and go.

Break up the route to clearly see where you are putting your feet, this will give you the clarity to move forward.

Mental resilience is built one step at a time and achieving a new result every day, every week, every month.

Conclusion

Mental resilience is a character trait that is now fundamental in our society.

The world we live in is fast-paced and subject to constant change. Disappointments and changes of plans lurk around the corner, everything moves faster and stress is on our tail.

How to manage everything?

You must develop resilience and learn to remain solid and strong in the face of difficulties. This will be of great help to you both in life and at work.
